What’s been your favourite meal this summer?

Marian Hossa: My favourite meal this summer would have to be deer meat. Actually yesterday, there were a bunch of players together. Marty Havlat was with me because he had a camp here with some Czech and Slovak players. So Marty was here, and we took him to the cottage and there was this one cook. Last time he prepared some bear meat and this time it was deer. He served with some dumplings and it was really good.

Next up is Havlat. He made $675,000 last season and is going to be seeking a significant increase. There have been no serious discussions with his agent, Allan Walsh, and no offer either.

There was talk the Senators were going to send Havlat a proposal on a four-year deal late last month. But getting the flashy winger signed shouldn't be a major problem.

"We're still waiting on an offer. We've had nothing," said Walsh last night from Slovakia.

Muckler said Havlat shouldn't be offended that there haven't been any serious talks about his contract yet.

"We had to get Smolinski signed because he was an unrestricted free agent ... Redden and (goalie) Martin Prusek both had rights to arbitration," said Muckler.

"We want to get something done with Martin Havlat and we don't expect it will be a big problem."

Not with Melnyk around, that is.
